My First Room - 3

Building

Congratulations, you’ve got a viable Quake level!  Before you do anything else, save it via “File > Save”.  Give it whatever name you like it and save it into your Quake maps directory.

On the main tool bar you’ll see a control that looks like this:

The option button on the left gives you different kind of build options.  “Full” is fine for what we’re doing but there are other options for different situations.  More about this in another tutorial.  For now, click the button with the arrow on it.  You’ll see a window like this appear:

The results of the build process appear in this inspector which automatically opens whenever you build your level.  You can see the output from the build tools here.  This build was successful and we have a good bsp, light and vis pass visible.

Quake

Now that you have successfully built your level, it’s time to play it in Quake!

Either click the “Play” button in the Build window or click the “Q” button on the main toolbar.  This will launch Quake and open your level automatically.  The first time you click this button it may take several moments to get Quake going so be patient.

When it does load, you’ll be in your level!

Have Fun!

Now that you have a basic level that loads into Quake properly, have some fun!  Change the textures on the walls, add more brushes, add some monsters, add more rooms - the best way to learn is to experiment and get some hands-on time using the editor.
